Depends on you:

Nitro- Fast, Loud, all terrain, expensive, require much care, gas is required, smell= perfect for the hardcore driver in an all-terrain speed race

Electric- Cheap, Quiet, Fast but not as fast as nitro, odorless, clean, require only electricity, generally faster on-road, but insane off-road as well= perfect for the on a budget, driver in a neighborhood that does not appreciate a VERY loud roar. Fast on road and pretty fast off-road. There are electric races as well.

I prefer electric, because of my neighborhood and there cleanliness. It's also very easy to recharge a battery rather than to go all the way to the store. They don't smell of gas either and require minimal care.
References :
Me. I love the whirring sound of a good 14.5 V battery pushing along a brushless motor.

I was a die hard Nitro racer/basher for well over a decade. Then I seen the brushless trucks race at the local track about 4 years ago. Been hooked on Electrics since.

I love the sound of a brushless motor on LiPo's running 70+mph.
