First be ready to fork out some serious cash. We had a couple of Traxxas Revo's and a Traxxas Jato. If you want something to jump stuff and go in the grass a Revo or T-Maxx for the paved roads a Jato or Nitro 4-Tec. They are great fun, though the brakes are a little tricky!!
References :
previous owner

actually you should look into what will be best suited for your area, meaning do you live in an area with lots of streets or pavement, or do you live in an area with more grass/dirt. Either way there are a ton of choices. in my experience i get more fun out of an off road buggy/truck you can beat the snot out of them and they still keep going as where an on road is generally more fragile and more prone to breaking. I have raced off road professionally as well as dirt oval sprint but i have more fun just beating around in the dirt :)

here's a link to help you. http://www.nitrorc.com/
